April marks 50 years since the federal Fair Housing Act was passed. It prohibited housing discrimination by race, color, creed and national origin. Below in the photograph is William Byron (right) and his son (left). William Byron introduced a housing bill in 1963 that would make it illegal to deny people the chance to buy or rent a home because of their race, among other classifications.
